Excavation revealed notable findings in the Golan, highlighting archaeological methods and community service involvement.
In October 2021, a salvage excavation was conducted south of Route 87, halfway between Qeshet and Ha-Mapalim Junctions in the eastern Golan (Permit No. A-9124; map ref. 272337/766111; Fig. 1) prior to the installation of a high-voltage electricity pylon. The excavation, undertaken on behalf of the Israel Antiquities Authority and funded by the Genesis Wind partnership, was directed by U. Berger, with the assistance of Y. Yaakobi (administration), T. Badihi (metal detection), E. Dalali-Amos (plans), A. Kleiner (aerial photography and photogrammetry), A. Shapiro (GIS) and a team of volunteer excavators from the ‘Turia’ core group in the program of combined military and community service (pioneer combatant youth) of the United Kibbutz Movement.
