Case highlights perforation risk in jejunal diverticulosis, emphasizing need for timely surgical intervention.
Jejunal diverticular disease is a rare gastrointestinal condition with an incidence of 0.5%–1%. It is mostly asymptomatic but can present with serious complications such as perforation, leading to acute abdomen. We report a case of an 86-year-old female who presented with abdominal pain, vomiting and loose stools. Imaging revealed pneumoperitoneum and multiple jejunal diverticuli. Emergency laparotomy revealed a perforated jejunal diverticulum, which was managed with segmental resection and anastomosis. Post-operative recovery was uneventful. This case highlights the importance of early recognition and surgical intervention in rare cases of jejunal diverticular perforation.
