Analysis reveals outdoor education benefits through a detective novel, enhancing Polish language learning in Cieszyn.
For over thirty years, the University of Silesia has organized a summer school of the Polish language, literature, and culture in Cieszyn, which gives the students the opportunity to learn both the Polish language and the cultural realities of Poland and its regions. One such region is Cieszyn Silesia – a historical land located in Poland and the Czech Republic, encompassing the south-eastern part of Silesia. Its most important city is Cieszyn, where the action of the detective novel “Cieszyn prowadzi śledztwo” by Marta Matyszczak takes place. The author describes real locations in the city with remarkable precision. The book serves as a valuable source of knowledge for foreigners learning Polish, who, upon completing the course, are equipped not only with language skills but also with information about actual existing places. Therefore, the aim of the article is to foreground the glottodidactic potential of Matyszczak’s novel, taking into account outdoor education methods, through which foreigners can acquire local knowledge.
