This descriptive–analytical study shows BIM enhances sustainable architecture, indicating climate change's mediating role.
Today, with growing environmental challenges caused by climate change, sustainable architecture has become a key approach to mitigating adverse impacts, and Building Information Modeling (BIM) can support this goal through innovative design. This study investigates the impact of BIM applications in innovative design on sustainable architecture, considering the mediating role of climate change. The research was applied and descriptive–analytical in nature. Data were collected through a questionnaire distributed among experts, architects, and specialists in sustainable design across the provinces of Tehran, Isfahan, Yazd, and Kerman, using purposive sampling. The data were analyzed using structural equation modeling with SmartPLS software. The findings reveal that BIM use in innovative design has a direct and significant effect on sustainable architecture. Furthermore, climate change serves as a mediating factor, indicating that part of BIM's influence on sustainability emerges through awareness and response to climate change. These results highlight that integrating technologies such as BIM with climate-responsive approaches can contribute to advancing sustainable development goals in architecture.
