Framing analysis highlights the media's role in shaping perceptions of illegal mining, suggesting a critical connection to environmental issues and governance.
This study analyzes the framing typology surrounding illegal mining ( Pertambangan Tanpa Izin or PETI), with a specific focus on news reports published by Bisnis.com . Employing a qualitative approach through framing analysis, the research aims to identify how environmental issues, particularly illegal mining, are presented within law and economic contexts. Framing theory serves as the primary analytical lens, explaining how the media selects and emphasizes certain aspects of an issue to influence public perception. The news framing analysis from January 2024 to March 2025 indicates a strong emphasis on moral and ethical framing, followed by legal issues, accountability to the public, and conflict. These findings emphasize the government's role in addressing illegal mining and the accompanying social and environmental consequences. The data also suggest that coordination across criminal justice system elements, such as police, prosecutors, and related agencies, is critical in achieving ecological justice. The study contributes to a better understanding of the crucial role of the media in shifting public opinion and policy agenda in natural resource governance, as well as extending the significance of framing theory in environmental communication.
