This research examines the efficacy of medicinal plants and nanoparticles for neurodegenerative diseases, suggesting a novel treatment approach.
Herbal remedies have served as a pivotal natural treatment for various ailments in traditional health systems globally for centuries. Numerous health issues, such as tuberculosis, cancer, diabetes, heart diseases, wound healing, asthma, pharyngitis, and hypertension, can be addressed with herbal plants. Few note. worthy Neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, and Huntington's can be treated too. These conditions, often associated with aging, present severe symptoms such as cognitive decline and motor dysfunction. There is urgent need for innovative treatment strategies to tackle the rising incidence of neurological disorders where there is scarcity of effective anti-amyloidogenic therapies. Medicinal plants that are abundant in bioactive compounds such as alkaloids, flavonoids, tannins, and polyphenols have been utilized for their therapeutic effects due to their diverse pharmacological properties. Nanoparticles derived from these plants, known for their beneficial pharmacological effects and low toxicity, present a promising approach. Their unique characteristics facilitate effective passage through the blood-brain barrier, allowing for targeted delivery to the brain and the modulation of specific molecular pathways associated with neurodegeneration. Nanoparticles play a vital role in addressing oxidative stress, apoptosis, and neuroinflammation in neurodegenerative conditions. This study examines the effectiveness of green-synthesized nanoparticles in combination with various medicinal plants for the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases presented in Fig. 1.
