The role of modern myths in preserving the integrity of national identity: between tradition and digital transformation

In the conditions of globalization and digitalization, modern myths remain the main tool for constructing national identity. Their importance for socio-political practice is not only not decreasing, but, on the contrary, is significantly increasing. The article is devoted to the study of mythological narratives formed under the influence of media and digital technologies, as well as their impact on collective identity. The object of the study is national identity in its symbolic and communicative dimensions. The subject of the study is the mechanisms of creation, dissemination and functioning of modern myths in the context of the digital age. The theoretical basis of the study is the works of domestic and foreign authors devoted to the analysis of modern forms of mythology, national identity and collective memory. The methodological basis of the work includes an interdisciplinary approach that combines discourse analysis, methods of memory studies and digital studies. The article proves that modern myths, unlike traditional myths, are characterized by flexibility and addressability, which allows them to function effectively in the conditions of modern society. The digital environment accelerates myth-making, transforming historical narratives into stable symbols. The study thus contributes to understanding how in the post-truth era mythology becomes not only a cultural phenomenon, but also a technology of identity management. The findings are significant for predicting the transformations of national consciousness in contemporary conditions. In addition, the study demonstrates that modern myths play a key role in the process of forming a coherent national identity and social memory.
