This study investigates the influence of microstructure on mechanical performance in cemented granular materials, utilizing X-ray CT and uniaxial compressive tests.
The cemented structure of cemented granular materials (CGMs) plays a vital role in determining the mechanical performance. A comprehensive understanding of the macroscopic mechanical behavior of CGMs necessitates a thorough comprehension of the cemented structure. In this study, X-ray microtomography is utilized to investigate the three-dimensional microstructure of cemented granular packing. Through meticulous analysis of X-ray microtomography data, this study rigorously characterizes the distribution law of intergranular bonding in CGMs. Additionally, the influence of self-compacting paste flowability on the cemented structure is examined. The cross-sectional area serves as a crucial proxy in characterizing the microstructure of CGMs. The study links microscale information to macroscale behaviors by studying the relationships between the cross-sectional area of intergranular bonding, cementing ratio, and material strength.
