Literature review highlights how hyperadrenocorticism impacts hormonal balance and reproductive health in dogs.
Hyperadrenocorticism is a common endocrine disorder in dogs. However, there are few data on its occurrence in animal reproduction. Its etiopathogenesis consists of the exacerbated production of hormones located in the adrenal cortex. Symptoms related to the gonads are testicular atrophy, persistent anestrus, clitoral hypertrophy, endometrial atrophy, among others. Diagnosis can be made in multiple ways, such as anamnesis, laboratory tests, imaging tests and hormonal tests, the latter being the most commonly used. This literature review aims to address the main deleterious effects that this endocrinopathy has on dog reproduction.
