Assessment highlights the impact of land degradation on crop yields in Kazakhstan, suggesting urgent intervention strategies.
Land degradation is a serious obstacle to achieving sustainable development. Nowadays, two-thirds of Kazakhstan’s lands are at risk of drought; every 2-3 years the country have serious problems with drought and crop failure; 23.5% of the country’s population has already lived in degraded lands. The consequences of land degradation are reflected in decreased crop yields, a reduction in the forage base for livestock farming, and a deterioration in the ecological state of the regions.
