Analysis shows psychological flexibility affects work vigor in ICU nurses, indicating the role of social support.
By investigating the level of psychological flexibility among intensive care unit (ICU) nurses and analyzing its influencing factors, and exploring the mediating role of perceived social support between psychological flexibility and work vigor, this study aims to provide a theoretical basis for nursing managers to take targeted intervention measures. A questionnaire survey was conducted among 301 ICU nurses from 3 tertiary hospitals in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region using the General Information Questionnaire, Perceived Social Support Scale, Work Vigor Scale, and Brief Multidimensional Psychological Flexibility Scale. The psychological flexibility score of ICU nurses was (53.21 ± 8.51) points. Perceived social support was positively correlated with work vigor ( R = 0.652, P < .01); psychological flexibility was positively correlated with work vigor ( R = 0.658, P < .01). The psychological flexibility of ICU nurses is at a medium level and needs to be further improved. Nursing managers should pay special attention to the significant impact of social support on nurses’ psychological flexibility, enhance nurses’ work vigor, and take targeted intervention measures to improve nurses’ psychological flexibility.
