This paper demonstrates the effective application of ozone and UV disinfection methods in small water systems, suggesting potential improvements.
Oxidation and disinfection of water with ozone is very effective, although it is not very common in small and rural waterworks, primarily due to economic reasons and the relatively demanding technical characteristics of the application of this technology. Disinfection with UV light has been confirmed as an effective and relatively economical method through more than 3 decades of application, but generally cannot be applied as the only stage of drinking water treatment. This paper discusses practical example of the application of ozone and UV radiation for drinking water treatment in small and rural waterworks in the Republic of Slovenia.
