Historical analysis reveals insights on German reunification, highlighting implications for Korean society's future integration.
In the process of integrating divided Germany, the system was relatively easy. The integration process between East and West Germans is being evaluated as going through a more complex and difficult process. The reason why East and West Germany do not understand each other is because of the long period of mutual ignorance. This is a historical fact that gives many implications to divided Korean society. The phenomenon of re-awareness of East Germany's identity and expressing nostalgia for the old East German period spread. It can be said that these historical and cultural phenomena are also reflected in the movie 'The Life of Others'.In addition, East Germans felt alienated during the transition from socialism to capitalism. “The Life of Others” is the first film to deal head-on with the issue of East Germany's secret police Stasi after reunification. In this study, a historical and cultural content approach was taken to the movie 'The Life of Others'. This will be a counter-teacher for Korean society, which is preparing for an integrated future society in a divided situation.
