Review highlights that graft copolymerisation improves the properties of gelatin, suggesting new applications.
A review is presented of the literature covering graft copolymerisation of vinyl polymers onto gelatin with a view to obtaining hydrophilic products with film-forming, bonding, and fibre-forming properties. The most popular methods for initiation of copolymerisation of this protein, namely the use of a redox system containing peroxodisulphates, cerium (IV) salts, and an H 2 O 2 /ascorbic acid system, are reviewed.
