Study reveals structural differences in Cd(II) coordination polymers, with fluorescence implications on luminescence.
Two novel Cd(II)‐based coordination polymers, [Cd(Hbcpt)(biimpy)(H 2 O) 2 ] n ·3n(H 2 O) ( 1 ) and [Cd(Hbcpt)(biimpy) 2 ] n ·4n(H 2 O) ( 2 ), are synthesized using H 3 bcpt and biimpy ligands. X‐ray diffraction reveals that compound 1 features a 1D chain structure with Cd(II) ions bridged by Hbcpt 2− ligands and coordinated by biimpy ligands and water molecules, while compound 2 adopts a 2D layered framework, where Cd(II) centers are coordinated by both Hbcpt 2− and biimpy ligands, forming a square grid. Solid‐state photoluminescence studies show enhanced fluorescence upon Cd(II) coordination, with compound 1 exhibiting a blue‐shifted emission at 381 nm and compound 2 showing a red‐shifted emission at 394 nm. These findings highlight the significant influence of metal coordination on the optical properties of Cd(II)‐based coordination polymers.
