Experimental analysis reveals increased load capacity with longer overlap lengths in adhesive joints, indicating significant differences between adhesives.
The aim of the article was to analyze the effect of overlap length on the load capacity of adhesive joints made of EN AW-2024 T3 aluminum alloy. Analyses were conducted for joints with three different overlap lengths: 7.5, 12.5, and 17.5 mm, made using two different epoxy adhesives: Araldite 2014-2 and Loctite EA 3430. The obtained experimental results were statistically analyzed using Statistica software. The analyses showed that, within the assumed range of input factors, increasing the overlap length increased the load capacity of the joints. It was also proven that the load capacity of joints with 17.5 mm overlap bonded with Loctite EA 3430 adhesive was significantly greater than that of joints with the same overlap bonded with Araldite 2014-2 adhesive.
