Analysis reveals that higher TMT computational thinking improves corporate innovation, indicating a link between digital transformation and patent output.
This study investigates the impact of Top Management Team Computational Thinking (TMTCT), defined as the ability of the TMT to solve complex problems through abstraction, decomposition, pattern recognition, and algorithmic thinking, on corporate innovation using panel data from Chinese A-share listed firms. By analysing annual report texts, I find that higher TMTCT significantly enhances patent output through digital transformation, learning-oriented culture, and knowledge diversification. The effect is more pronounced in firms with higher AI adoption, greater TMT educational diversity, and operating in technology-intensive industries.
