This analysis demonstrates natural renewable water resources in the Amudarya River basin, highlighting its significance for agriculture and hydropower.
The Amudarya is one of the largest rivers in Central Asia. Administratively, the Amu Darya River basin covers the entire territory of Turkmenistan and part of the territory of the Republics of Tajikistan and Uzbekistan, the Kyrgyz Republic and Afghanistan. The article considers the hydrological study and analyzes the assessment of natural renewable water resources from various sources. Measurements of the water level and flow in the Amu Darya River basin began in 1886. In total, from 1886 to 1978, there were 439 hydrological posts, the observation period of which ranged from 1 to 137 years. The water resources of the Amu Darya River are the basis for the development of the states located in the river basin. In the Central Asian States, the water resources of the river basin are mainly used in agriculture and hydropower. The protocols of the water intake limit for Central Asian countries and the main aspects of the problem of sharing a transboundary river with Afghanistan were considered.
