Assessment shows fenuron accumulation in forest soils varies by soil texture, indicating ecological implications.
Employing oat seedlings as plant indicators of herbicide toxicity, the amount of fenuron residues remaining in forest soils five months alter spring applications was estimated. Of three variables tested: soil depth, soil texture, and herbicide rate, soil texture alone was significantly related to residue accumulation. Residues leached most rapidly from sandy loam soil; conversely, the greatest amount of fenuron residues occurred on a silty clay loam soil.
