Review discusses impact of visceral adiposity and new medications on obstructive sleep apnea outcomes.
Obesity is a risk factor for development of obstructive sleep apnea. The role of visceral adiposity in contributing to obstructive sleep apnea has been highlighted in this review. The use of non-invasive methods of measurement of visceral adiposity, including Epicardial Adipose tissue thickness, offers a unique opportunity to elucidate changes in visceral adiposity in setting of obstructive sleep apnea. The role and impact of newer medications including incretin based therapy on Epicardial Adipose tissue thickness and their role in management of obstructive sleep apnea has also been highlighted.
