Abstract There is a critical need for trained managers within the forestry profession. If foresters do not adequately prepare themselves for administration, administrative leaders may have to be obtained from outside the profession. The forestry profession, schools, organizations, the individual forester, and the Society have responsibilities in management training. There is a wide range of training sources–from the Bible to graduate-level university courses. To be effective, the training needs to be carefully planned, selected, and timed.
