Chemical treatments reduced pales weevil infestation in Scotch pine stumps, indicating treatment effectiveness variability.
In January and March 1966, chemical treatments were made on new Scotch pine stumps to test their effectiveness in preventing pales weevil infestation. A significant difference in subsequent infestation was found between sodium arsenite, benzene hexachloride, aldrin, and the control. A single difference in results was observed between January and March treatments. Fuel oil applied in January reduced the population level slightly but in March it did not. Fuel oil, pentachlorophenol, and 2,4,5-T in fuel oil did not satisfactorily inhibit weevil breeding.
