This model predicts elastic properties of woven mesh structures, indicating the importance of micromechanical analysis.
An analytical model for prediction of elastic properties and strength of woven mesh structures using material micromechanics is developed, in which a representative volume element is divided into several subelements so that their combination can be considered as a multilayer laminate-type composite. Instead of assuming isodeformation, constant inplane deformations with out-of-plane constant stress are considered to determine the mechanical properties of laminates. The nonlinear mechanical behavior of a balanced plain weave composite is studied taking into account the inelastic properties of the polymer matrix. The accuracy of the model is verified by experimental studies.
