Elite athletes and males frequently use anabolic-androgenic steroids (AAS) to enhance performance and enhance physique. There have been reports of severe cardiovascular adverse effects in AAS users. This report describes the uncommon instance of a 40-year-old male without any other risk factors developing dilated cardiomyopathy, subsequent to AAS abuse for the previous 8 years. The precise mechanism by which AAS causes cardiomyopathy remains unclear. There are as yet no guidelines formulated for the treatment of AAS-induced cardiomyopathy. Anabolic androgenic-induced cardiomyopathy must be familiarized by physicians when confronted with a case of dilated cardiomyopathy.
