It is important when preparing bulky feed to use various types of bio-preservatives that help reduce nutrient losses and improve the organoleptic and quality properties of preserved feed. The purpose of the research was to study the use of bio-preservatives to increase the nutritional value of silage and haylage. During the research the Hattori method was used to determine the physiological state of bacteria in bio-preservatives; NGS sequencing of silage prepared with the Biotrof® 2+ starter was carried out; an analysis of the expression of genes synthesizing L-lactate dehydrogenase and D-lactate dehydrogenase by the microbiota of silage laid with the multi-strain biopreservative Biotrof® 2+ was carried out. Under production conditions, tests of the new bio-preservative for silage Biotrof®-AC were carried out and recommendations for its use were given. It has been established that the use of silage prepared with the starter Biotrof® 2+ in the rations of lactating cows was cost-effective. The revenue from the use of the liquid bio-preservative Biotrof® 2+ was higher compared to the use of the dry preparation Best-Sil dry and the dry preparation Silo Feedtech® M20XCE by 2.3 and 5.6 %, respectively. The profi t received from the sale of milk in the group of cows fed silage with the starter Biotrof® 2+ was higher than in the groups fed silage with the fermentation starters Best-Sil dry and with Silo Feedtech® M20XCE by 4.8 and 12.0 %, respectively. The use of the fermentation starter culture Biotrof®2+ contributed to an increase in the level of profitability in the 1st group by 1.1 and 2.7 absolute% compared to the 2nd and 3rd groups.
