China and the United States and have one of the world’s most important and complex bilateral relationships. For decades, the differences in the two countries’ social systems, trade disputes, Taiwan’s international status and the South China Sea, as well as other issues have influenced the bilateral relationship. This paper analyzes the evolution of China–U.S. relations through an exploration of history. It contains three parts. The first part reviews the historical evolution of China-U.S. relations. Based on history, the second part analyzes the current problems that impede the development of bilateral ties. After summing up the historical experience of China–U.S. exchanges, the third part predicts the possible endgames of China-U.S. relations.
