The article discusses general issues of application of engineering calculations in modern manufacturing in various fi elds, advantages of using numerical modeling at early stages of product design, main solution methods used in modern CAE systems, types of calculations used in design (strength, hydrogasdynamic, electromagnetic, thermal) and technological (modeling of casting processes, welding, heat treatment, metal pressure processing, production of composite materials) development. Examples of foreign and domestic modeling systems are given. The principles of operation of system (1D-modeling) programs for assessing the operation of complex hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical and other systems at an early stage of preliminary design are considered. The principles of automatic optimization of processes and products using integrator programs of various CAE solutions are analyzed. Examples of engineering calculations performed by Nova-Engineering are considered: a crash test of a passenger bus with an assessment of possible injuries to virtual dummies, an analysis of the spread of the Covid-19 virus in an offi ce workspace, and a calculation of welding spans of a bridge across the Volga River.
