In the present paper is analysed the possibility of transforming the current ship electrical energy system of an oil/chemical tanker from the current generation of ships in operation into a hybrid ship electrical energy system by installing electrical energy storage systems. Storage systems made up of Lithium-Ion type batteries offer the possibility of using diesel generators in optimal mode with minimum specific fuel consumption values, achieving reductions in fuel consumption. By transforming ship electrical energy network into hybrid electrical energy system, the operating time of diesel generators is reduced to less than half that leads to significant reductions in maintenance costs of diesel generators.
