Abstract The college classroom must constantly change to match curriculum with labor market demands. For economics degrees, the focus has been on critical and analytical thinking. Are these still relevant for today's entry-level jobs? To find out, we analyzed job postings using data from Lightcast. Frequently listed skills for economics majors include communication, management, research, and software skills like Microsoft Excel. This study aims to inform changes in tertiary economics education that preserve economic theory while providing students with skills to succeed in the workplace. We provide one example of how Lightcast data can inform the future of higher education curriculum.
