The article is devoted to the definition of the concept of information security in the activities of the National Police of Ukraine. The article notes that the National Police of Ukraine plays an important role in protecting the information space of the state, individuals, society and organisations from various types of threats. The article analyses both scientific approaches and legal acts and their drafts to the definition of the general concept of «information security». In the course of this analysis, the author identifies the key features of information security: availability of information about any events and someone’s activities; relevance of such information to the interests of individual entities; ensuring by authorised entities of protection of the information space from internal and external threats; availability of subjects: a person, society, the State and legal entities; availability of information space, which includes such components as means of information interaction, information resources, and information infrastructure. Attention is drawn to the legal framework of the National Police of Ukraine’s activities in ensuring information security. The author highlights those powers of the police aimed at ensuring information security of Ukraine. The authors also focused on the activities of the Department of Regime and Technical Protection of Information of the National Police of Ukraine, which is authorised to monitor the state of technical protection of information in police bodies and units, and on the activities of the Cyber Police Department with the definition of its tasks in the field of information security. The authors come to the conclusion that information security in the activities of the National Police of Ukraine is an integral part of the national security of Ukraine, which is manifested in the legal relations of authorised police subjects with each other and with other subjects (a person, society, the State, legal entities) aimed at ensuring the protection of the information space from any threats. Information security is ensured by the police at four levels (departmental, state, interstate and international).
