A new method for the synthesis of 1,3-dicarbonyl sulfoxonium ylides is described. The acylation reaction is carried out in mild conditions using inexpensive and bench stable N-hydroxyphthalimide esters as acylating agents in a non-radical, transition-metal free pathway.
