The diatom study of the sediment sections of low terraces located at the top of the Purnema Bay (the Onega Bay, White Sea) was carried out to infer the influence of sea-level changes on the evolution of coastal marine ecosystems. Changes in the composition of diatom assemblages and abundances of siliceous microfossils revealed the transformation of ecological conditions associated with the gradual shallowing of these areas of the seabed, their emergence from the tidal zone and establishing subaerial environments characterized by moisture deficiency.
