Objective: Diagnose environmental degradation at the mouth of the East Axis of the Transposition of the São Francisco River (ELTRSF) and the production of sewage dumped in the initial stretch of the Upper Course of the Paraiba River (ACRPB). Theoretical Framework: The research contemplates theories and the state of the art of geoenvironment, in the search for water security and environmental conditions suitable for socio-environmental development. Method: The rainfall regimes of five municipalities were established, whose drainage areas flow into the ACRPB bed, which receives water from the ELTRSF. Potential flows, contribution areas, relationships between population and sewage production and the evolution of basic sanitation were estimated. Results and Discussion: The rainfall regimes of five municipalities were established, whose drainage areas flow into the ACRPB bed, which receives water from the ELTRSF. Potential flows, contribution areas, relationships between population and sewage production and the evolution of basic sanitation were estimated. Research Implications: It allowed establishing the characteristics of the rainfall regime of the ACRPB section and the relationships between the population and sewage production. Diagnoses of the ELTRSF's environmental degradation and sanitary conditions made it possible to guarantee water quality to serve around one million inhabitants Originality/Value: This study contributed with an innovative approach to geoenvironment, with relevance in the diagnosis of the water transposition axis of the São Francisco River and the stretch of the receiving hydrographic basin.
