Unusual open‐chain tetradentate NHC‐phosphine pre‐ligand [Ph 2 PCH(Ph)ImCH 2 ImC(H)PhPPh 2 ](BF 4 ) 2 was prepared in a good yield by metal‐mediated approach starting from Mn(I) complex [Cp(CO) 2 Mn(η 2 ‐Ph 2 P=C(H)Ph)](BF 4 ) and bis(imidazole) derivative ImCH 2 Im. Its reaction with Pd(OAc) 2 afforded dicationic Pd(II) complex of bis(NHC)bis(phosphine) ligand adopting κ 4 PĈĈP coordination mode as a mixture of two diastereomers. The deprotonation of the C(H)Ph ligand bridge in the latter using KN(SiMe 3 ) 2 as base provided stable complex exhibiting unconventional phosphonium ylide moiety, whereas all attempts to detect the corresponding bis(ylide) derivative failed.
