Abstract In the Indian Himalayas, several hydroelectric projects are under construction or planning due to the availability of a perennial water source and a natural head for hydropower generation. However, the region faces challenges of natural disasters, particularly from the risk of glacial lake outburst floods (GLOFs) exacerbated by climate change. The Bajoli-Holi Hydroelectric Project on River Ravi is studied to analyze its spillway capacity considering both GLOF and Inflow Design flood. Advanced methods such as hydrodynamic modeling, hydrometeorological approaches, and tools like ArcGIS for catchment delineation are employed to effectively understand and mitigate these risks. Additionally, sensitivity analysis using the MIKE 11 model helps explore various breaching parameters, enhancing the study's accuracy. This study can make the engineers and policymakers informed decisions to ensure the safety and sustainability of hydroelectric projects in the region, balancing energy generation with environmental conservation.
