The most common types of steel used on platforms and offshores suffer corrosion due to the high concentration of dissolved salts in the water and the oxygen in the atmosphere, caused by a mechanical weakening of the metal, making catastrophes possible. This research, which holds promise for the industry, aims to determine the metallurgical and corrosive properties of API 5l X70 steel. The results indicated medium resistance of the steel to corrosion and high susceptibility of the cellulosic electrode to forming hydrogen cracks. Similarly, a high carbon concentration in the root pass showed lower corrosion than the base metal. They can check whether the test specimens were more corrosion-resistant in the Heat-Affected Zone (HAZ). Based on the observed results, there are deficiencies in the coalescence process, proving the need for improvement in the welding and manufacturing process of API 5L X70 steels, requiring a new change. These findings pave the way for potential solutions to reduce corrosion effects in marine environments, offering a glimmer of hope for the industry.
