The present paper contains a description of article the current state of the retail market in the Russian Federation. The main trends of the development of retail in Russia are shown. These trends include the growth of digital retail, the emergence of new retail formats adapted to the changing purchas-ing power of the population, the entry of federal retail operators into new regional markets and the acquisition of small retail companies by large chains. A major threat to the sustainable development of retail may be a shortage of labor, which requires a revision of the policies of retail companies in the field of personnel management.
