A Study on Ganjae Lee Deok-Hong’s Spirit of the True Human

Ganjae(艮齋) was a scholar who lived a consistent life with loyalty to the country and filial piety to his parents. His life and scholarship are special because he actively practiced what he learned. He thought it was important to keep his conscience, not profit. He treasured the time he spent with his teacher, colleagues, and disciples. He always expressed his will to live with a righteous and good heart in poetry. He liked to live in nature with mountains and rivers. He reflected on his daily routine with a calm mind. He also inherited the scholarship of great teachers such as Confucius and Toegye. He is a loyalist because he fought devotedly when war broke out. In addition, he is a good public official because he always looked after the people as children. He was very admiring of the teacher's poetry and Confucian philosophy, and succeeded his teaching style. His poetry expressed himself who learned and practiced the teachings of a great teacher. He praised the efforts of Toegye, a great teacher, through poetry. His poetry expressed the clear and clean heart of the True human.
