Program evaluation reports a structured competency framework for predoctoral curriculum mapping in life science doctoral trainees, highlighting data-driven improvements for graduate education.
Training in the life sciences must continue to evolve to prepare students for challenges in the 21st century. Our program has taken a competency-based approach to meet this need. Here, we report on our efforts to define a competency framework that aligns with our training priorities and apply it to the mapping of our predoctoral curriculum. Systematically collecting and analyzing curriculum data allows us to evaluate a central component of our training program, propelling more holistic and data-driven decisions for improving the program in the future.
