Abstract This paper investigates the application of semi-autonomous robots in automating Construction Progress Monitoring (CPM) and further in the operational phase of the building lifecycle, specifically aimed at enhancing the comparison of as-designed and as-built data in the construction industry. The study illustrates the robot's significant role in the automation of the process of the accusation and alignment of point cloud data, thereby promising considerable time and effort savings over traditional methods. It showcases studies in 3 different locations representing construction, retrofitting and occupied spaces and discusses gains and challenges faced. These advancements help in the creation of more accurate digital twins for both construction and operation.
