Case studies reveal structural failures and necessary repairs in dams, highlighting safety concerns.
This study assesses the significance of dams and locks in Rio Grande do Sul by examining their structures, locations, conservation status, and documentation, while also identifying potential damages that may necessitate restoration. The primary goal is to detect structural failures and highlight the essential role of these infrastructures in ensuring proper functionality. This research applied case studies and inspection sheets for dams managed by the State Government. The Amarópolis Dam underwent a recovery effort to restore its reservoir capacity, while the Dom Marco Dam requires localized repairs due to oxidation. Fandango Dam, although operational, requires monitoring, and the Bom Retiro do Sul Dam has faced structural issues with its downstream miter gates, necessitating significant repairs. In this context, this research is justified by the need to enhance knowledge and techniques related to dam monitoring processes to achieve more effective results, while also seeking to reduce administrative costs.
