Acetaminophen is widely used for musculoskeletal pain management, generally for arthritis, in elderly people and for reduction of fever in colds, flu and infections. Using the acetone/liquid paraffin solvent system, cellulose-based-microparticles were prepared by the emulsion solvent evaporation technique. The aim of this work was to evaluate the influence of stirring rate on: encapsulation efficiency, in-vitro drug release, release kinetics and morphology of microparticles. The drug loading ranged from 13% to 15%, while the encapsulation efficiency ranged from 67% to 77%. А directly proportional dependence among stirring speed and encapsulation efficiency is observed. Drug release follows Higuchi model and the release mechanism is dominantly a Fickian diffusion. For one trial, a non-Fickian diffusion has been observed. As it can be seen from the microphotographs, both spherical and angular microparticles are obtained.
