Patients admitted to hospital for alcohol withdrawal present with unique nutritional risk factors predisposing them to malnutrition. This study explored patients' views on alcohol, nutrition and health through semi-structured interviews. Nine participants were included and three key themes emerged. Themes included an awareness of the tension between alcohol, nutrition and health; differences in exposure to factors that influence health and nutrition; and differences in readiness and level of engagement with healthcare. These themes highlight the different social and environmental factors, including food insecurity, that impact on health, nutrition and a person's ability to engage with healthcare.
