Quantitative 3D Assessment of Meniscus in Patients with Posterior Root Tears and Healthy Controls Using T2* Mapping at 7T

Evaluating 3D T2* mapping of the meniscus at ultra-high field 7T provides necessary high resolution to better characterize tissue changes in the meniscus. This study was designed to measure the 3D structure of the meniscus with T2* mapping in a clinically acceptable scan time at 7T, and to evaluate meniscus degeneration in twelve patients with arthroscopically verified tears of the posterior horn of the medial meniscus and nine age, sex and body mass index matched healthy controls. T2* mapping at 7T provided comprehensive 3D evaluation of meniscus and detected degenerative alterations caused by the root tears in the patients.
