There is a need for bioanalytical sensors that operate reliably for real-time monitoring of biomarkers in vivo . To address this need, we have created a hybrid sensor integrating microneedle patches with aptamer-based electrochemical sensors for monitoring glucose and lactate in vivo. We have developed a series of quality control and programmable calibration curves for measuring concentration changes in vivo. Using these methods, we have been able to monitor both lactate and glucose simultaneously in the interstitial fluid of two live animal models. Our measurements are in excellent correlation with analysis performed on blood using gold standard laboratory techniques.
