To identify criteria for evaluating the contribution of architecture and design to promoting social support, a hospital was taken as a case study. The criteria were identified in publications from the Ministry of Health and in environmental certification references. Five indicators of social support were recognized: waiting areas; accommodations for companions; interview room; internal areas for coexistence; external areas or gardens for coexistence. The case study fully met 30% of the indicators, partially met 20%, 20% were not applicable and 30% were not met. The need to improve requirements in the area's standardization was identified.
