Residential buildings represent a significant impact on the annual energy consumption. This paper aims to discuss the effect of the use of thermal insulation on building seals in a single-family residential typology building located in bioclimatic zones 3 and 8 in Brazil. The comparative study is built and simulated in computer using the software EnergyPlus 8.1, it compares in each city, evaluated strategies of the use of thermal insulation in the building seals in a standard social housing project in Brazilian cities (Florianópolis, São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, and Natal), defining the best combination of strategies to reduce the building's energy consumption. The best building performance was observed when thermal insulation was used only on the interior part of the envelope walls
