Digital technologies represent advancements for the construction sector and can promote its transformation process through the pursuit of sustainable building. In this sense, strategies such as Virtual Design and Construction (VDC) integrated with Building Information Modeling (BIM) and Advanced Work Packaging (AWP) stand out as potential paths for creating a clean, collaborative, and shared production system, with greater efficiency in the use of natural resources such as water, energy, and materials, and improvement in people’s quality of life. In this article, a state-of-the-art survey of the addressed subjects was conducted, along with a real case study of VDC practices describing the means and methods used at the interface between BIM and AWP. The results showed that transforming the traditional management model allows the integration of BIM and AWP and can promote the transformation of the sector at all stages of a building with quality, productivity, reliability, and safety.
