Sir, In January–April 2024 issue of the Journal of Marine Medical Society, Lahel et al.[1] estimated the great saphenous vein (GSV) cutoff diameter value to predict reflux at the saphenofemoral junction in Indian patients with varicose veins (VV). The estimated cutoff value was 5.4 mm with a specificity of 78.5%, sensitivity of 74.3%, and accuracy of 75.1%.[1] In our opinion, the following methodological limitation could deter the clinical applicability of that estimated cutoff value. Ethnicity is a major determinant of blood vessel (arterial and venous) dimensions.[2-4] India is a known country with a wide range of ethnicities.[5] Regrettably, Lahel et al.[1] did not take into account the ethnic classes of the studied population in the study methodology. As a result, the rightness of the study findings might be disrupted by that limitation. Nevertheless, the estimated cutoff value of the GSV diameter is pivotal in helping physicians manage VV cases.
