In the central zone of Senegal, hyperfluorinated brackish water constitutes a public health problem. It is in this context that it was decided to make our contribution to the purification of drinking water in this area, particularly in the commune of Diouroup, Fatick region. In our study, we used zircon as a substance in the physicochemical defluorination process. The results obtained, by the physicochemical treatment by filtration on the zircon column, showed overall a reduction in fluoride contents of 67.55% (i.e. from 6.41 mg/L to 2.08 mg/L) in chlorides of 10.44% (i.e. from 750.33 mg/L to 676 mg/L) and sodium of 10.88% (i.e. from 759.19 mg/L to 676 mg/L).We can therefore state that zircon can be used for the defluorination of hyperfluorinated brackish waters.
